The State Police has failed to arrest a father of a minor for allegedly impregnating his own daughter in a locality in the town of Tura.
The suspect, according to sources, had been repeatedly having sex with his daughter since she was 9 years old and impregnating the girl in the process.
According to sources, the case was reported more than a month ago in May and the culprit is yet to be caught by the police.
Sources informed that the matter came to light after the girl complained of stomach pains and was taken to the Tura Civil Hospital along with her mother.
Immediately, upon knowing her state, doctors who examined her, informed the local police in Tura. However before he could be arrested, the father absconded, taking all the money he could find at home.
“A case has been registered in the Tura Women’s PS on the matter and a search is being conducted to nab the father. He has been raping her since she was only 9 years old,” said superintendent of police, West Garo Hills, Dr MGR Kumar.
According to local sources, the father had been threatening the daughter against disclosing his crime leading to her keeping quiet over the matter for so long.
“These are unheard of kind of cases and we are lost for words on what to say. This is beyond human sensibility. The person, who could do this to his own daughter, is not a human but an animal. We urge the police to go all out to nab the culprit and provide exemplary punishment to him. I shudder to think about the trauma that the young girl has gone through so early in her life,” said social activist Jaynie N Sangma from Tura.
Expressing disgust at the incident, former GSU president, Sengrak D Marak, who knew the father said, “I wanted to thrash him for what he did after we came to know of the incident, but the fellow ran away before anyone could catch him.”
The accused father has been booked under POCSO Act with a case being filed in the Tura Women’s PS.
“We are making all efforts to nab the culprit,” added the SP.
